The official website of the anime film adaptation of Takako Shimura’s Happy-Go-Lucky Days (Dounika Naru Hibi) has announced that the film’s new opening date is now set for October 23. The film was supposed to open on May 8, but was delayed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
As celebration for the announcement of the new premiere date, author Takako Shimura released a new illustration:
The main characters and their respective voice actors were previously revealed last February. They are:
· Kana Hanazawa as Ecchan and Mikako Komatsu as Aya-san, two women who fell for each other after meeting at the wedding of their former sweetheart—who is actually the bride in the wedding they attended
· Takahiro Sakurai as Sawa-sensei, a teacher who is put on the spot by a confession from his student played by Seiichiro Yamashita (as Yagasaki-kun)
· Ibuki Kido as Shin-chan, Kaori Ishihara as Mika-chan, and Ai Fairouz as Sayoko in two segments that follow childhood friends and the widening gap between them as they grow older
The anime film is directed by Takuya Sato, who also directed the OVA adaptations of yuri titles Kase-san and Morning Glories as well Fragtime. Koji Aritomi (Naruto Shippuden) serves as technical director. Director Sato, Yasunori Ide (Leviathan: The Last Defense), and Yoriko Tomita (As Miss Beelzebub Likes) co-wrote the script. Character design is done by Haruka Sagawa (Sorcery in the Big City), with Yukihiro Saito as art director. The anime film is produced by LIDEN FILMS Kyoto Studio, with distribution to be handled by Pony Canyon.
The Happy-Go-Lucky Days manga is a collection of stories that revolve around everyday life and ordinary love, be it sweet or painful. Some examples of stories are a student falling in love with a teacher, and two childhood friends who reunite as adults and realize that a lot of things have changed between them. The manga also features yuri stories, such as a woman who attends the wedding of her ex-girlfriend. The stories range from slice-of-life to erotic content (good heavens, there’s incest) to comedy.
The manga was published from 2002 to 2004 and was serialized in Ohta Publishing’s Manga Erotics F.
Takako Shimura also wrote the 2004 yuri high school manga Sweet Blue Flowers (Aoi Hana) as well as Wandering Son (Horo Musuko), both of which received anime adaptations.
