RADWIMPS Cancels World Tour Due to COVID-19

Sad news for those who were planning to see RADWIMPS: the popular four-member rock band has announced last Thursday that their planned world tour this 2020 has been cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The world tour was supposed to have stops in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Below are the cancelled dates and venues:

·        Los Angeles (The Wiltern): July 15

·        Dallas (Canton Hall): July 18

·        Toronto (The Phoenix): July 20

·        New York (Sony Hall): July 22

·        Mexico City (Blackberry Theater): July 25

Other world tour stops in Europe and Asia have also been cancelled. The band’s management has advised fans who have purchased tickets to inquire with their respective ticketing agents on how to get a full refund on their tickets.

RADWIMPS is currently composed of four members: vocalist and guitarist Yojiro Noda, guitarist Akira Kuwahara, bassist Yusuke Takeda, and drummer Satoshi Yamaguchi. The band was formed in 2001 and debuted independently in 2003 with the single “Moshi Mo”. In 2004, three of the original members left and were replaced by Takeda and Yamaguchi. The band made their major debut in 2005 under Toshiba EMI with their fourth single, “Nijuugoko-me no Senshokutai”.

RADWIMPS achieved commercial success in Japan in 2006, with the release of the album Radwimps 4: Okazu no Gohan. Two subsequent singles, “Order Made” and “Dada” hit number one on Japan’s Oricon Singles chart. The band became a household name to international anime fans upon the release of the top-grossing Makoto Shinkai film, 2016’s your name, the soundtrack of which was composed mostly by the band. The film’s theme songs, “Zen Zen Sense”, “Sparkle”, “Yume Toro”, and “Nandemo Ii ya” were huge hits to anime fans. your name’s soundtrack album was the first RADWIMPS album to top Oricon album charts; the album went on to win several awards as well, including the Soundtrack Album of the Year award from the Japan Gold Disc Awards in 2017.

The band also provided the equally-beautiful soundtrack and theme songs to another Shinkai film, Weathering With You.
