Synopsis
This is the tale of an ordinary office lady named Akane and her younger sister, Hiyori. One day the two, their dog and even their house end up being summoned to another. There Hiyori ends up as a priestess to be trained by the people of the castle while Akane ends up taking care of the house and treating rare guests one after another with hospitality through homemade meals
The Good
There are a few isekai slice-of-life stories to be found, but with this series, it takes quite a step out of the box. For one thing, it has the usual hero-type story going on in the background which adds an interesting layer to the series. Added with the concept of an unexpected protagonist, this is a series that’s got a good amount of hooks. It also helps that the main focus is more than Akane entertaining different guests, it’s her adapting to this new world and that is what really brings out the story.
Character-wise, there are interesting people introduced throughout the series and the way that they all have different than expected personalities also adds a nice touch. When it came to the revelation on how Akane would end up being connected to the fantasy aspect of the series, it added even more interest for the story.
The Bad
It seems like a nitpick but one of the first flaws of the series that this writer saw is that it has Akane’s personality be based on cooking and a love for alcohol. While the later chapters do explore how she adjusts to the new world and the latest chapter showed how there is a deeper aspect to her, it would have been nice to see more of a buildup towards this. It was clear that the series held a good balance in terms of story but it could have done better in expanding some of the characters, mainly Akane. On a smaller note, the series does go a little too vague at times when it tries to be mysterious in certain chapters.
Conclusion
As isekai stories with a slice-of-genre go, this is a series that’s got a whole lot of potential. It takes a step out of the box with its concept and characters and the general story has a good flow going on so far. The series could have done better in expanding in terms of character development but it did make up for it by introducing an interesting fantasy concept in its plot along different than expected characters. It’s definitely a series that seems low-key but may just offer more than you expect.
