After five years since its last anime series and the dissolution of plans for a reboot back in 2015, the “Bakugan’ franchise is making a comeback. More than a new TV show that may be showing sometime in 2018 or 2019, the Q3 2017 financial call has also revealed a new toy line for the franchise as well.
This is just one of the “several exciting TV shows” that Spin Master’s Global President and COO Ben Gadbois had listed in the company’s entertainment group. Also noted to have an expansion and additional content for the Hatchimals toy line are the Paw Patrol, Abby Hatchers, Rusty Rivets franchises.
“Bakugan”, which is fully known as “Bakugan Battle Brawlers” is a Japanese-Canadian action adventure television series produced by TMS Entertainment, Dentsu Inc., and Nelvana Animation. As a franchise, it is a co-productions from Spin Master and Sega Toys, with animation by TMS Entertainment, Dentsu, and Nelvana Animation.
The series was directed Mitsuo Hashimoto, written by Atsushi Maekawa and produced by Joyce Miller. It was first launched in April 2007 and had and had a total of 5 seasons but the final two seasons only aired in Canadian and U.S. markets.
At one point in April 2012, a spin-off series was released for the franchise. It was titled “Baku Tech! Bakugan” and featured the characters from the manga of the same name; ending in March 2013. Followed after it was a sequel series called “Baku Tech! Bakugan Gachi” which ran from April 6, 2013 to December 28, 2013.
The story begins on a day when random cards suddenly fell out of the sky. They are picked up by a boy named Danma Kuusou who along with his friend Shun Kazami, creates the game, “Bakugan”; from this he and his friends form a team called the “Bakugan Battle Brawlers” in order to play this new game together. However the game that they have created turns out to be much more than it is as it accidently sucks them into an alternate dimension called Vestroia, the home ground of Bakugan.
