The shoujo genre has a treasure trove of stories that pulls at a romantic’s heartstrings or at least impact the romantic side of a viewer. From dramatic stories of growing love to the whirlwind relationship of unique characters pairing together, shoujo brings out stories that touch the heart. The stories that truly embody this genre are those that leave a highly “fluffy” feeling so to speak and the following are some recommendations for those who want to take a step back from the high paced and dramatic pieces and take on the softer side of the genre.
Love so Life
A story with two adorable children and a family forming in an unconventional way, “Love so Life” gives focus to high school student Shiharu who lives in an orphanage and works at a day care having a love for kids. One day her life changes as a man offers her a job as a babysitter to his two-year-old niece and nephew. Now with only memories of her mother as her guide and her schools she gains a new life and slowly bonds with this makeshift family.
Gakuen Babysitters
After the death of his parents, high school student Ryuuichi along with his younger brother Kotarou ends up in the care of the chairman of his new school. In order to stay with her however he is given the condition to become a part of the school’s daycare center turned “babysitter’s club” alongside one of the staff Usaida Yoshihito. Here is a story of a young boy caring for adorable children and their adventures together as he gets to know them and their families all the while adjusting to his new life.
Hibi Chouchou
A new take on romance in the shoujo genre that has no exaggerated scenarios nor over the top romantic scenes. This manga tells the story of the extremely cute but extremely silent Suiren who upon entering high school has attracted the attention of all males. All males but one that is; Kawasumi is a quiet and serious boy who is into martial arts and the only one to show no initial interest in Suiren. This a love story between two quiet people getting to know one another.
