“It’s certainly tall.”

Before you even read this, please look at Darwinfish105’s video above. DWF105 has done several great videos now that we’ve featured on the site, and the work is just staggering. Dig this one, for instance.

Seriously cool, isn’t it?

As of March 1st 2012, the construction of the Tokyo Sky Tree was completed. The structure, designed to replace the iconic Tokyo tower, stacks up at 634 meters and cost 806 million US dollars to build. The tower itself will not only provide digital TV and radio broadcast services, but will also feature observation areas, an aquarium, a theater, and a restaurant. There are also plans to incorporate “academic institutes” into the tower(!).

The tower itself will open on May 22, 2012. There will be two observation decks open to the public; one at 350 meters and the other at 450 meters. Adults pay 3000 yen and children pay between 900 and 2300 yen. The official web site lists all of the relevant information that you’d need for your trip to see it.

Additionally a local ice cream store named Sakura Cafe Mukojima is selling a 63.4 centimeter tall parfait to celebrate the tower. You can learn more about the tower itself here.

ooh I was confused for a moment. I was like "that certainly is not the tallest skyscraper in the world" when it obviously said tower. Well... towers can be considered skyscrapers too, but... eh. You get what I mean.
