WE ARE LOOKING FOR CONTRIBUTORS!

By AnimeEv 1 year, 2 months ago

Ani.me is currently looking for regular contributors, columnists, artists, and collaborators.
Interested? Fill out our form here.

What we’re looking for: We are looking for a group of contributors and columnists to provide us with regular content be it news, features, video posts, podcasts, reviews, or interviews.

What it means to you: A chance to help us not only build our site up from the ground floor but to help us establish ani.me’s tone and editorial stance. We are not a conglomerate, but we are not a teenager’s blog either. This is a great chance for anybody with a deep interest in Japanese pop culture to build up their resume and get some quality exposure and face time with the industry. Japanese music, anime, movies, art, TV, travel, food, games… all are game for coverage.

Ideally you’d be contributing a written piece every two to three days, if not more. Following twitter feeds, PR releases, and contacting responsible parties are all parts of the gestalt. Journalism students are especially welcome to apply: print’s dead, and this is the most real writing experience you can get where it’s not some dude screaming at you all the time. Our staff has well over a decade of experience and are looking for a few good team members to help out.

What’s GOOD: Articulate, striking, concise, well-researched, funny, and singular articles with a good design and most importantly a TAKE on something. Our editorial staff doesn’t have to agree with your opinion pieces, but we expect that they’ll be worth reading. Novel news pieces, good snags about upcoming releases, TIMELY reviews or special interest pieces et al are fantastic. We’re trying to make an awesome community of awesome people who are driven, motivated, and stoked to write and report about Japanese and geek pop culture in general, and we are looking to find people who are into that.

What’s BAD: Livejournal cough syrup blogging with no point. Directionless rants that go nowhere. Needlessly sophomoric writing that celebrates its own juvenilia. Super-stern research work that may as well be written on a stone tablet. Long wind-bag pieces that are barely about their topic. Articles that need 4 rewrite passes or edits. Something that reads like a laundry list. Old “news” pieces about things that are no longer timely or useful to the fanbase. Retrospectives are cool, but stories that meant something 3 months ago? Not so much.

Basically: would you be excited to show this to people? If so, awesome! If not, can we make it awesome?

What’s in it for you: Solid credits, a byline, a place to publish your work regularly, a chance to get your work out there, good references for graduating students or contributors, and goodies to review. We are currently NOT paying contributors, which is why we don’t ask you to write a draconian number of pieces a week, but we do give out tons of free promo, dvds, badges to events, and press-only goodies. If we’re into your work and you post regularly we can then discuss upgrading you to a part-time staff position.

It should be noted that we are looking to hire a part-time editor who is expected to write as well as edit other people’s work.

It sound amazing but I'd have a hard time writting every two to three days, once a week would be the best I could do. Having a clue is one thing, but having time to spend using it, well that's a different story.

It'd be really cool and I'm a decent writer, but I definately couldn't keep up and I'd probably get fired. XD

This is awesome. :) I wish I could, but I'm already in Journalism in my school so, unfortunatly, I don't have much time to do this no matter how much I would like to. :(

Looks like fun, but I doubt I could find enough material for two stories a week.

I would love to. But I'm kind of out of the anime loop for the most part and I'm to out of the way to reach anime conventions and the sort. sucks...

I'd love to do reviews on upcoming anime. I'm usually up to date on them too.

When I first started writing for Ani.Me I had the same fears as you guys, but it's really not that big of a deal. LB and Evan really worked with me to help me refine my review and article writing skills and believe me I've made plenty of mistakes and they still haven't fired me. If you're interested I would go for it. It's fun to write about anime.

We're not really the "firing" type. :)

This is a great load of opportunity! I wish I can do this, but I'm the type of person who procrastinates, can't write good and doesn't follow the news until somebody tells me a week later...

rawr

I would do it if I wasn't so busy with school (and probably be too lazy).

rawr

also @YamiNagi can't write *well*

Jyrz

Yeah, I would love to do this. But my writing skills are amateur and I'm a little disconnected from the anime going-ons of the world. I wish I lived in a bigger city...

Yes I would love to do something along these lines, but there are too many 'buts' in my case. But#1: I could never put out enough articles a week; but #2: I use sites similar to this to find out all my anime/manga news, and usually way after it's been posted; but #3: I have absolutely NO idea how or where to find out all the information, gossip, tidbits, etc(although I would love to know!) ; but#4: the younger audience would hardly be interested in what a 38 year old mother of 5 has to or they'd listen to their own more!

Sounds nice but I don't think i could really write as well. or really keep up with things. though i'd love to have a job, since I'm not in college or anything right now.

spoonybard

I thought about it, but as far as "what's bad", news three months ago is typically news I'm finding out today. I also tend to go off topic a lot.
