Gintama fans are a cynical lot. We’ve been trolled so many times by the powers-that-be that we greet any official announcement regarding Gintama with an eye-roll, before returning to our Jump. So when Gintoki & company started talking about a movie, we chalked it up to yet another “gotcha!” tactic.
Then lo and behold, it actually happened! Gintama: Shinyaku Benizakura-Hen was released in theaters this April, to the surprise and delight of us world-weary fans. Now it looks like the legions (okay, maybe regiments?) of overseas Gintama groupies will actually get to see it, along with an all-new bonus animation! … If you’re willing to pony up for the R2 limited-press release on December 15th, that is.
Santa will not disappoint if you do, though, because according to ANN, the DVD will include some juicy extras! In addition to the movie, which supposedly contains new footage for the “Benizakura” arc, the limited edition will contain the bonus animation, a drama CD, staff/cast interviews, an actual strip of the film, the theatrical pamphlet, and a pinup poster. Excuse me while I go clear some space on my wall!
