I love Lucky Star. I’ve re-watched the series at least a half dozen times, I think its one of the best parody series of the decade and Kagami Hiiragi holds a very special place in my tsundere harem. But this… this is bound to test even my love of the series.
In the latest issue of CompAce a big Lucky Star announcement was made. Before anyone gets excited, it wasn’t a second season or even another OVA. Instead, it was announced that the comedy series about absolutely nothing would be getting its own original musical stage production. Singing and dancing is promised to be part of the show but there are no other details how exactly they plan to make this work.
Before anyone gets too upset though remember that Lucky Star is not the first anime series to do this. Sakura Taisen, Sailor Moon, Naruto, Peacemaker Kurogane, Fruits Basket and even School Rumble have all followed in this same tradition. Though none of them ever tried to insert music and dancing where it didn’t belong either. The only way I can imagine this working is if the story centers on the girls doing karaoke or performing another big cheerleader routine. Eh, more Lucky Star is more Lucky Star I guess but I sure hope that the series isn’t overextending itself a little. I heard the original character image songs when they were released… it wasn’t really pretty. Mostly god awful maybe, but not pretty.
