Durarara!! might be one of the few shows in the past couple of years to do it RIGHT. The art direction, the colors, the music, the stories, the characters, and the interplay were all deftly handled, unique, and great. DRRR did it so well that I’ll forgive it its trespasses and shortcomings. I felt like it copped out in a few places and in a few ways, and I still can’t really describe certain aspects of it without feeling like I’ve been drinking cough syrup and trying to do calculus, but man the overall gestalt was exhilarating and fresh and at times genuinely dark and haunting.
Now do me a big favor, Durarara… and go away.
Don’t blow it. Don’t cannibalize your legacy. Don’t make the mistake of a sequel. Don’t try to tie up the stuff you left hanging or kind of farted out on. Don’t come back and get all wink-wink on me. Don’t explain the dad. Don’t piss on your own legs and try to recreate your magic. Don’t. Don’t. Don’t. DON’T. DON’T.
Why not? Well, because every time a show like this takes a victory lap it involves more suckage than a vacuum cleaner testing facility. Characters who were once idolized become dismissed and discounted. Plot devices that were once shocking become route and cliche. Diminishing returns start to rule the day and everybody wonders “why bother?”
So don’t do it, Durarara. You gave us Celty the Dullahan, some rad music, Simon, a very literal take on Ikebukuro’s backstreet psychosis, the best explanation I’ve ever seen for engaging in otaku-like behavior delivered by obsessive manga fans, and of course…

TEH GAR-TENDER.
So don’t blow it Durarara!! JUST SAY NO TO SEQUELS! Let’s keep girls interested in cosplaying as Celty FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE!
Durarara, celty
gotta love that shizzy guy.
What's even worse is that there's going to be an English dub. Durarara is too good for one!! D:
