I've been reading Blood+ the manga adaption for yucks, and just finished Antique Bakery ... I'm probably the last person in the world to read that series. Man is it fantastic, though! Everyone should read Antique Bakery, and basically everything Fumi Yoshinaga has ever written.

Hmm, other than that ... Chi's Sweet Home was my latest purchase. You guys/gals?

I don't read a lot of manga but I've started getting into it a bit more lately. Working, Kaichou wa Maid sama and Seitokai Yakuindomo have been favorites and make for great bedtime reading.

Another series I've been following in the 'generic shoujo romance' category is Faster Than a Kiss. Very generic (to the point of lifting plot devices from other, better known, series) but still so very addicting and fun.

Another rather generic plot that you might like is "Dangeki Daisy"!! It's cute and for some reason the main male character almost shares the same name as Ichigo from Bleach.... Oh!! If you like shoujo I'll recommend reading "Ouran High School Host Club" because it is a little bit out of the normal and rather whacky. An author I'd suggest is Azuki Ryou~ She makes shoujo manga and they are always pretty funny. The female characters are barely ever weak and that's what I love about them. Have fun ^o^

I'll have to check out Dangeki Daisy, thanks!

I actually loved the Ouran anime and really considered it one of the best of its year. I would love to read the manga especially since I hear it really expands the characters but haven't been able to pick it up yet. Someday though I totally will.

Skip Beat and Nana are decent. I think Nana's been on hiatus for a while though. Neither are finished nor are they likely to finish soon.

Yes! I agree with you!! Ouran was a whacky anime and something that was different in the girl genre! I re-watched it again recently and remembered how funny it was even though the ending doesn't give you the largest closure that you'd hope for. Ooh do pick up the manga sometime, the plot gets more narrow as you keep reading ^o^

I love Skip Beat but it's a really long series and unfinished at the moment :/ Oh a short read at your local book stores!! Beast Master~ The main guy character looks like L for some odd reason.

@dv8nation - i don't think the first volume of Bakuman is rocky. i really enjoyed it; it sets up the main characters and some of the supporting characters quite well, and that's all i really expected from the first book.
the second book adds more tension because bigger events start happening: they go to Jack to submit their first work; their 'rival' Nizuma Eiji is introduced; Moritaka gets in a fight with that stupid Ishizawa kid; the love interests get more involved, etc.
i'm bummed the third book is so far away still... thank god for scans ^__^

Ouran High School Host Club has been mentioned already but I'll second (third?) it. Very clever story and fun characters. The series I've been absolutely fanboying over this year is Kaichou wa Maid sama. Looooove this series in an almost creepily freakish way (almost... but not quite).

Kaichou wa Maid sama is hilarious!! The art ain't bad either. I would think it's a crossover between your normal shoujo manga and something quirky.

I need to finish Monster, BADLY... it was an amazing comic.

I bought and read a lot of a Golgo 13 comic on the plane back from Tokyo. It was 300 yen and 800 pages for goodness' sake!

In the past few weeks I have read:

Idoru (William Gibson)
Dirty Pair novel 1. (meh)
Personal, Portable, Pedestrian (book on cell phones in Japan from MIT press)

Currently working on the second Foundation book by Asimov, although I want to read "All You Need Is Kill" right now.

I just got done re-reading "Peach Girl, Sae's Story" and I have to say, it was worth re-reading because for the most Sae still just did not get it till she was pushed to the edge to fall forever down teh spiral of of being friendless and alone. of course the original cast won't allow that and even helped her see the errors of her ways "again".

read Boys over Flowers "Jewelry Box" and was just wow over the 2 stories that are there. The books takes place 1 year after the series itself ended. I wished they would have made a 1 shot OVA to DVD as well. but overall that too was well worth reading.

I've been trying to catch up on volumes and volumes of Kaze Hikaru. It's refreshing to read a shoujo where the mangaka focuses more attention on the historical detail and accuracy than on the melodrama.

Someone finally pushed her off a cliff? I have reason enough to finish this series now!
