which one and why?
Well, that depends. As far as on-going manga/anime goes, I prefer Naruto. The characters develop in the story and sort of grow on you, and they are fuckin' ninjas. NINJAS! 8D Although there is nothing worse than filler episodes when it comes to the anime, and in the first season there are like 70 of them >.<
But for a short-standing series, I loved Death Note. I must admit I haven't been watching any new stuff lately, but I watched Death Note a few times for it's awesome qualities :)
(a few of which are..)
It's seen from the "bad" guys perspective, even though his intentions are sort of good in a twisted way. So you sympathize with him, even though usually you'd be seeing it from the antagonist's view, and siding with him.
The psychological battle between the two main characters unfolds pretty well up until near the end of the series (where it sort of.. dies), so it keeps you interested enough to finish watching it.
Also - very very well animated.
Blood+ by far. Even though the manga is so different from the anime, I prefer the manga because it represents the characters better then the anime does. It seems to give them more personality, even the characters that are rarely in the anime.
Mahoromatic because not only is it Nakayama's single greatest achievement (Shina Dark was pretty good too), but it also taught Bow Ditama that manga can be entertaining without resorting to pee jokes and incest...
On the surface it's an ecchi comedy with overt maid fetish jokes, but actually manages to tell a very compelling story about the importance of family.
"Mahoromatic because not only is it Nakayama's single greatest achievement (Shina Dark was pretty good too), but it also taught Bow Ditama that manga can be entertaining without resorting to pee jokes and incest... "
A lesson he's gone on to apply to absolutely none of his future works. LOL
Speaking of Bow Ditama, Kiss x Sis has actually been a favorite of mine for awhile. I rarely read manga and so when I do find one I enjoy it tends to become a favorite pretty quickly. I'm also currently loving Working and Ika Musume.
Actually if you look at Juuden-chan, underneath the pee jokes, is some serious commentary about suicide and depression in Japanese society.
Still haven't picked out the redeeming quality in KissxSis, but I haven't gotten very far in that manga yet...
I find Nakayama's lack of notoriety since Mahoromatic a little disappointing. Shina Dark was a great comedy, but he abruptly ended that series, seemingly for no reason. I loved the Mahoromatic jokes in that...

LOL! my evil twin writes a lot! i totally agree though! it may sound unoriginal, and its not like i don't read other manga, but, lets face it, i am naruto obsessed... and a slight death note nerd too! :D
yotsuba (relaxin and fun) and uzumaki (mess's with your head)
"yotsuba (relaxin and fun) and uzumaki (mess's with your head)"
Yotsuba, hell yes. It's by far my number one unfinished manga series, and my top 3 overall.
I've been wanting to read Yotsuba so bad but I just haven't had a chance to pick it up. It's on my list right along with Ouran High School Host Club.
My Fav manga is Pandora Hearts by Jun Mochizuki... it has Amazing arwork and an even better story line!. and it's only just being released in english where I live, so I'm so happy!! It's lke a really dark Alice in Wonderland type thing... it's so good. :)
One Piece,
absolutely epic :3
or Love Hina
damn i was so upset when that finished that the 14th book was the last i bought and i took up smoking
so now every time a buy some cigarettes i would have been buying a new manga a few years ago haha
Also Gantz, GANTZ IS F!@#$%^ AWSOME
Death Note. i remember a friend turned me on to the anime and let me borrow the first book and i made it my mission to read the manga before i finished watching the anime. it was a good call 'cause the anime really compressed everything after L died. and i just plain out love Takeshi Obata's art (i also love his art for Hikaru No Go, Castlevania: Judgement and for Bakuman)
SPOILER ALERT
god damn you
L dies? XD
@Joey - Oh god, I've killed your hopes and dreams by revealing that... NNNOOOOOOOOOO!!! >o<
haha XD
naa i stopped reading it when someone ruined everything for me ages ago
i wasnt too bothered unfortunately
it was a good read though :3
still got a couple of the books D:
my friend let me borrow books 1-5 and then i bought 6-12. i've never gotten around to buying 1-5...
ah i bought 1-3 and then it got ruined for me XD
id only just bought them and read them and my friend said
'oh see that L guy? he dies'
i almost stabbed him
so i ruined harry potter for him
screamed "SNAPE KILLS DUMBLEDORE" at his face
yeee payback ftw
vampire knight as i loved the twisted anime so i read the manga witch is even better but it only updates every month well sometimes!
My favorite manga would be...right now it would be Neko ramen!! Despite the super loose style and how simple it is, I love the humor! It is a cat who is trying to make ramen! A very simple plot, but involves lots of random humor. It kind of reminds me of Shin-Chan or Doremon. Ahh <3
i really enjoyed the BLEACH manga (mainly because there's no fillers like the anime) although i really don't know whats going on in the latest chapters...
also, SCHOOL RUMBLE was one i really loved! i had to read it because they only made 2 seasons of the anime and never really made the 3rd season (they made the last 2 episodes but thats it).
@MisledYouth: i have been told that the Bleach manga is good, but I have never had the chance to buy some... what's it about?
@WiddySquiddy - i really like BLEACH 'cause it deals with the supernatural. it's about a high school kid, Ichigo Kurosaki, who acquires spiritual power with the help of a female 'grim reaper' (shinigami) named Rukia Kuchiki. Ichigo helps Rukia hunt down souls that have lost their ways and become evil (hollows). But Soul Society (kind of like a mix of Heaven & Hell) does not approve of a human using these soul powers, so they 'arrest' Rukia and decide they will execute her. So then Ichigo sets off on a mission with his friends to save Rukia and then all this awesome action unfolds, and lots of plot twists occur, and more awesome stuff happens... and ya... you should read it... i cant really explain it... @__@
@MisledYouth: Wow!! that sounds really interesting- diffinately going to check that out! thanks for the plot summary- has properly convinced me to have a look! thank you! ^-^
ya, its awesome. my explanation only covers like '1/10th' of the story, and it only gets more epic!
Bleach is a decent manga if you read it in chunks. If you're waiting on weekly releases you'll realize how slowly it goes. Case in point, it takes over 100 chapters to finish the last arc starting from when they're already fighting in the town. Kubo also dislikes drawing backgrounds. Is it really necessary to use up a whole page to put the word (the) Heart on a blank page?
@rawr: i will probably read it in chunks anyway, coz the nearest place i can get anime/comics/any books whatsoever, is about an hour away, so i have never got the time or money to go that far weekly! that's why when i buy naruto i take my time and takes me FOREVER! but in my opinion it is SO worth it! thanks for the heads up though! ^w^
I love Kaze to Ki no Uta (Song of the Wind and the Trees). It's a beautiful shonen-ai story from the '70s, and it does take a bit of getting used to the style - someone could see it as fluffy and girly, but you have to look past the roses on every page, and see it as an intense, complex story with interesting characters. It's on Mangafox.com and I recommend it to everyone, even if you don't like shonen-ai.
Neon Genesis Evangelion (even though it's not the original) and D.N. Angel. They are such love~
I reckon Psyren, because of the quality and storyline of this beautiful manga
"i am naruto obsessed..."
I am the same way. Naruto was the first anime I got into that was still running when I started watching it. It was also first manga that I read.
I'm also a huge Saiyuki fan. I just fell in love with the characters.
"i really enjoyed the BLEACH manga (mainly because there's no fillers like the anime) although i really don't know whats going on in the latest chapters..."
I love reading bleach! it is my fave manga and anime! but in the lastest chapter it is most ichigo getting his soul reaper powers back (yet again) but it is getting good! XD
Well...I have 3 favorite mangas right now...
- Kimi Kiss *It's my guilty pleasure due to the story; about a dude who hasn't had his first kiss yet. It's a fav. :D
- Yotsuba&! *It's random and funny. What's not to love?
- Negima! *I saw the anime of this first, so I felt compelled to read the manga. How foolish I was to try...It's still a fav. :P
naruto and deathnote are really good naruto is my favorite but i like FMA better than deathnote
@TheD123 - dood, Yotsuba&! is hilarious!!! i wish they would make an anime out of it...
Chobits.
1) The man, Hideki is a perv to the extreme
2) He talks/yells at himself-so he looks crazy
3) he falls in love with a computer(persocom) [basically they mixed a computer in a human body form]
anywho its what got me into anime, and i still love it.

@WiddySquiddy
chobits is amazing.
i loved every minute of it :]]]
DNAngel is currently my favorite manga. I love the fantasy aspect of it, plus the characters are pretty amazing.
Hmm...Loveless. I don't have to really explain; just read it, and you'll be hooked for life. ♥
"DNAngel is currently my favorite manga. I love the fantasy aspect of it, plus the characters are pretty amazing."
Me too, me too~! One of my faves! <3
Naruto :)
I don't have just one favorite.
My favorites range from Chocolat, Death Note, Sailor Moon, Ceres, Fushigi Yugi, Life, Godchild, and Angel Sanctuary right now.
I should also add that I love X/1999. I wish CLAMP would finish it though :( Damn you CLAMP for momentarily quitting that series! I also adore Chobits.
In all seriousness, though, I love anything of CLAMP.
vampire knight. why? BECAUSE ITS FRIKKIN AWESOME!!! its romantic and has some suspense in it!
I have a lot. Bleach, D.Gray Man, Elfen Lied, Kaichou Wa Maid Sama, Kuroshitsuji, Pandora Hearts, Mahou Sensei Negima, basically all mangas where there is either action or comedy.
There are so many mangas to choose from! Red River because of the story line. Ouran Koukou Host Club and Beauty Pop because of their funniness. There are wayy too many to choose from. :P
I have too many favorites!!! But if I had to narrow it down to my top 3 I guess it would be Death Note, Vampire Knight, and Hibiki's Magic!
hmmm... Ihave a few including Death Note, D.N Angel, Vampire Knight and Blackbird! I started waqtching the anime for Vampire Knight and thats how I got into it and my friends introduced me to the others and I loved them straight away! :D

Vampire Knight is really good! I recommend it to you! :D
So far Nurarihyon no Mago and The World God Only Know
yer the world that god only knows is awsome.
Well... lets see, I the manga I first read was Ceres, and I really like that one, but my favorite ones have to be. . . Bleach, D Grayman, Mar, Pandora Hearts, Saiyuki and Dengeki Daisy. I said all of these because it depends on the mood I'm in, so it changes.
Mine would be be D. Gray-Man. I just love everything about it. The characters are well created and executed, the plot is pretty interesting and I love the concept of the series.
Berserk is pure awesomeness. Ikki Tousen for the fighting and the babes. Mahou Sensei Negima as my shonen fix. Welcome to the N.H.K is the funniest manga ever.
i like Beauty pop. my fav character is Narumi because hes such a hothead. its so funny!
To anybody who said D. Gray Man, I would be surprised if anybody still enjoyed it after it changed to monthly releases. Of course if you only like it because the characters are hot or something, that's a different story.
And what's wrong with that?
My favorite manga right now (surprisingly) Naruto. It's just THAT much better than the anime. Followed closely by Love Hina.
It's long been completed, but I love it too much to let it collect dust in my room - Chrono Crusade.
It has a very different feel from the anime and I just love the way Rosette and Chrono get along.
And plus, who can resist Chrono?
Hmm...
DON'T ASK ME THAT, YOU SON OF A BITCH!!! IT'S LIKE CHOOSING BETWEEN CHILDREN!!!!
Fullmetal Alchemist. It is by far one of the best mangas I have ever read. The story is just too amazing.
I don't have one favorite!!
For me it's a tie among Chobits, Death Note, Life, Ceres, Godchild, Angel Sanctuary, X/1999, Tsubasa, and xxxHolic.
"And what's wrong with that? "
Liking the series just because the characters are hot? Nothing. My post doesn't apply to you. It only applies to people who liked it for the storyline. For the most part, everyone agrees the series has gone down the toilet since the monthly releases.
Lol whoops posted twice...
I just love Full Metal Alchemist, I cried when it ended but it was just an all around awesome manga. It even ended right. as for ongoing manga, i read alot but i guess bleach would be my fav, i was happy when the aizen arc finally ended this new stuff is good since they finally progressed in time. i am looking forward to read it new chapter
It was good until L died for me, i finished it but didn't enjoy it after that. But the art is amazing
Katekyo Hitman Reborn
It's anime's budget doesn't include any country but Japan, because the english is absolutly horrible for the maincharacter, Tsunayoshi Sawada(Tsuna). So it cut off after one of the best anime arcs ever, and the manga is still ongoing. KHR is my favorite anime and manga. But, their both REALLY slow in the beginning...I almost didn't watch it because of the filler arcs in the first 50 episodes.
My favourites are:
Yotsuba&- I have a crush on her dad and I think all children should be like Yotsuba
REAL- I don't follow basketball, but it's hard to ignore when faced with Inoue's drawings.
+1 for Fullmetal Alchemist. I'm so glad I read the manga and didn't just stick to the first anime series.
Also, I think there's a Genshiken fan on here somewhere besides me. That is definitely on my all-time favorite manga series, I can't get enough of it and reread it all the time. I was so happy when the artist continued it...

Fullmetal Alchemist is the one series I go out of my way to purchase as soon as it's off the press. But it's been the focus of my shopping trips to the bookstore for the past 6+ years, so I'll be glad to move on soon.
And while it's not my favourite, I definitely loved reading Genshiken. It was one of the few series that I truly thought was hilarious.
it is hard just to pick one but my fav's are
fullmetal alchemist and sekirei
SUPER hard to pick just one but i'd have to say (bride of the water god) if that even really counts as a manga, its kinda a manga/manwa, but the illustrations were just outstanding
Pet Shop of Horrors. I love this manga the art work is lovely and the story is amazing I highly recommend checking it if you can. It is very dark though which I kinda like.
"Pet Shop of Horrors. I love this manga the art work is lovely and the story is amazing I highly recommend checking it if you can. It is very dark though which I kinda like."
I liked Pet Shop of Horrors for it's fables with a moral approach. I think I'm vindictive just enough to enjoy watching these characters get what they deserve, haha.
"Naruto hands down, Soul Eater, and Vampire Knight. There's more but those are probably my top three. Always looking for new ones to get into. Any suggestions?"
nice choices!! death note is good, and if your into cutesy stuff, fruits basket is decent. these are really obvious choices, but i guess im a very obvious person!! ^.^
"I think I'm vindictive just enough to enjoy watching these characters get what they deserve, haha."
I loved that D always stuck it to the people who deserved it :)
Naruto hands down, Soul Eater, and Vampire Knight. There's more but those are probably my top three. Always looking for new ones to get into. Any suggestions?
i'm a battle royal fan it's intense violent and the artwork is awesome, i've only read a few of M.P.D. psycho but i like it alot too, it's kinda the japanese version of dexter, also gantz is great. (i seem to enjoy the insanely dark and violent ones lol)
could not really pick just one my favorites are S.A VAMPIRE KNIGHT, ONE PIECE, BLEACH NARUTO(NINJAS' ROCK) ONLY THE RING FINGER KNOWS AND MAMOTTE SHUGOGETTEN. each series provides me with a different view on life and allows me to enjoy each format of story telling.
bleach, naruto, and fma because its just great story and all the characters just have a life of their own
I LOVE "Blade of Heaven" if you don't mind heres a long but well worth plot summary. Blade of Heaven begins with a young boy by the name of Soma who had been accused by the King of the Heaven for supposedly stealing his sword. Heavenly beings along with Demons have been fighting for many generations for ultimate supremacy. Before all of this began however, there was a certain period of time commonly referred to as the "Great Battle of Heaven" before human beings supposedly had existed. This was a battle between the demon realm and the heavenly warriors to see who would be fighting to rule the land. Within this ancient battle, there were three legendary swords that anyone would have sacrificed their own life to attain; One of which being the Sword of Kwangma. This vicious sword had been known to have left many levels of blood in its ruthless wake, and particularly chose those of high status as its master. The second sword is the Sword of the Guardian Spirits, in which can contain the four elements of the world within itself. The Guardian Spirit sword can use these elements to its bidding within any moments of need. The last of the three swords, which was known as the Blade of Heaven was clearly the greatest of the three. When at one time in which the demons had the upper hand, the wielder of this sword suddenly had appeared and destroyed all of them without getting hurt. The previous renowned wielder of this sword became referred to as King Pachun (who unknown to Soma is his father). The princess of heaven, and the General Winter join him on an adventure to retrieve this Blade of Heaven. Although it is revealed that Soma is the one who stole the sword, the blade later chose him as its new owner. "I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you read this manga each manga vol. is the size of 3 and so far I have only 10 well worth it in my opinion ^-^
i am currently reading bleach and death note.
pretty amazing :DD
Gauken Alice
Probably the first series I got deep into, It sort of just stuck as my favourite for years now.
Blade of the Immortal- Its one of those few action/ gory awesome series that I read
Hana-kimi- It's just a cute cross dressing love story
My favourite manga is currently Gentlemen's Alliance Cross. I love the drawings and the storyline.
Love Letter by Jiro Asada - Q~Q it's. so. SAD. the k-movie, Failan (which i also love) was also written by him. i don't know if it's meant to be an adaptation, but it has enough differences and similarities that it could be considered either. people consider it a melodrama, but it's so mature and well-executed it doesn't feel as trite as others in the genre.
Hotel by Boichi - it's about a computer (and its memories of its maker) as it deteriorates in a post-human world. it manages a "hotel" that houses the DNA of the animals and humans that existed before the catastrophe wiped everything out. i love stories that humanize and make you feel for nonhuman protagonists (super-advanced androids and dolls notwithstanding)
Present by Boichi - a girl falls in love with her teacher, with a TWEEST! a poignant, touching twist (sadface)
Yokohama Kaidashi Kikou by Hitoshi Ashinano - life of a robot who runs a cafe. it's really...gentle and relaxing. the art isn't complex, but it's really nice.
PLANETES by Makoto Yukimura - garbage men. IN SPACE. it's more interesting than it sounds. and the author's definitely done his homework.
Joan by Yasuhiko Yoshizaku - fictional take on the events that happen a couple years after Joan of Arc's death. the art's beautiful, and the author's really done his research. and i kind of have a thing for Joan of Arc.
those are just the ones i can think of right off the top of my head. wow, i thought i hated sad stories, but here i am filling my list with them :(
Kerero Gunsou for the win :D
*= ASU NO YOICHI
*= KENICHI
TBH...I think, no wait...I KNOW that my all-time favorite anime is...
*trumpets*
OURAN HIGH SCHOOL HOST CLUB!
I love Kaoru Hitachiin and Hunny-sempai is MINE!!!
<3
