Summer Wars....Star Wars Animated?

Long time no see….but let me get busy one time….

I had heard of Summer Wars being released when I was at Anifest’10 in Dallas. D-town is beautiful, just not a cowboys fan. Summer Wars hit my hands a month ago and I was not impressed with the cover. It is attractive, yet simple and easy going. However once it starts, OMG it is a rollercoaster. First and foremost the upcoming hero is a common guy. He has no Jedi powers, he has no robots that are loyal (I know you want to know how this show compares to the sci-fi classic) I am getting there. Your male hero is a math genius who can crack Calculus 3 Puzzles in minutes and solve complex equations without breaking a sweat. He is like Luke Skywalker in this instance, we never meet his parents, and his best friend is a fellow nerd. Then his phone is his r2d2 and his c3p0 is one of the young kids in the house he ends up in for the summer.

Imagine the most attractive girl at your place of employment bursts through the door and says, “I have a job, be my boyfriend for the week while I visit my grandmother and pretend to be a Tokyo U grad, plus you get a kiss from me.” If someone would have asked me that at 18 or 19, maybe even 21 I would have been game for it. But then again I am not Japanese, and surely not a MATH GENIUS! LOL! That’s where the story kicks off. Without ruining it for you here are the cliff notes;

1) Wonderful family dynamic that fills the cast of the old school Star Wars roles including a Vader character
2) Hard Core Computer Nerd Hacking Action….yes…you get a super evil AI that slays everything in its path
3) Ultimate Political conspiracy about Japanese Infrastructure with a family that can help it work
4) The Obi Wan Kanobe character is actually the Grand Mother who does get more powerful with her death!
5) The unsung nerd rises to heights of his own epic triumph….
