So I pulled out my 1st Gig and 2nd Gig sets. I am going through these again for something I lost and a group of students trying to expand their mind. I remember meeting Dai Satou at Animefest and how the conversation went about Ergo Proxy. I remembered how I forgot to ask one or two crucial questions, “was the major a guy before the war (certain things she does give you the impression otherwise),” and “how far gone was America’s influence in the future? Japan resumed its ultra-nationalist stance in the show and every sub faction was pushing to shatter or re-enhance itself.”
The Show intrigues a depth of questions and ponderings into what happened between today and the Future. The show hints at World War III, and the Japan we know seeing Ultranationalist growth and then America becoming an Empire. The Americans as an empire isn’t a hard pill to swallow but I want to understand why Japan makes us the bad guys all the time. What makes it interesting is the students are starting to see that in depth as well.
I will do a mini-set of blogs related to key episodes and points I find interesting about the show. Not only for my fans but to give my students in depth dialogue to use for their individual papers and assignments.
