I FOUND IT! I FOUND IT!!
So in case everyone isn’t aware, April Fools is a rather fun event in the Japanese anime community. Many of the popular studios and artists put out single day jokes or mini-events, and promptly take it all down once April 2nd rolls around. This leaves roughly 24 hours to find all the goodies before they disappear and for those of us on the other side of the world, that’s even less time once you add in sleep and work.
So this year, Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica was the big thing and quite a few studios had some fun with it. While most are just images or entire websites made up to look like their take on Madoka Magica, Nitro+ went out of their way and made a video featuring their voluptuous company mascot, Super Sonico. Nitro+, being one of the more popular companies, I expected something pretty elaborate from, upon hearing it was Madoka related (Urobuchi Gen, Madoka’s script writer is also one of Nitro+’s scenario writer), I was even more psyched, but I found out far too late, and it was no longer public.
After a few days of searching, I was lucky enough to find that someone mirrored the video. So behold the opening to Mahou Shoujo Sonico★Magica!
In case you’re wondering: yes it is, shot for shot, EXACTLY like the Madoka Op.

Because when you put it with the Lat model, it becomes epic.
Put it with the Lat ChibiMiku model and it becomes LEGENDARY:

And an Eng dub of Black Apple:
New version of the vid, apparently the last was flagged as a Youtube TOS violation. The subs are from the original Japanese as opposed to Cristina Vee’s lyrics.

My face feels like it’s melting, bright lights make my eyes hurt, I can’t feel my legs, and standing has become unbearable…Good times…
Pictures pending.

So I got home yesterday and found that the Saber-chans had ordered something from RightStuf…with my wallet…
As always Lion-chan was being belligerant and unreasonable, so much so that couldn’t understand her “explaination”...At least she didn’t pick a fight with Miku this time.
Sit in the corner Lion-chan, I’ll deal with you later.
Lily-chan isn’t saying anything…
She’s blushing, it’s kinda cute. Since you’re sweet, I’ll let you off the hook. Tell Lion-chan that I’m not done with her yet.
Now we’re down to Saber-chan.
Saber-chan says that Lion-chan convinced Lily-chan to help her order it. Don’t worry, Saber-chan, I believe you. Lets open it together!
Saber-chan wanted to use Excalibur to blow a hole in the box. She’s been looking for an excuse for a while now. I told her no and gave her a knife instead…
Careful Saber-chan, you remember what happened last time you tried to open a box from the inside?
Oh dear…
I can’t tell if Saber-chan is excited or just dumbstruck. I don’t think she knows Japanese…
Saber-chan says latches can be difficult when you’re only four inches tall. I really wouldn’t know…

Saber-chan has a very one-track mind. The second she saw plastic wrap, she went for Excalibur.
No Saber-chan, I’m not going to let you melt it with Excalibur. Didn’t we talk about using Noble Phantasms in the house?
Sword in the stone, meet Sword stuck under the plastic…

Now pull as hard as you can, it’s almost out. I’m going to be holding onto this side of the bag.

Saber-chan you look upset…
Wait, what do you mean this isn’t what you told Lion-chan to order?
So is there something you want to tell me?

Perhaps one of my favorite Vocaloid songs ever, but one that’s so slow, I’ll probably never put it on my ipod…
It’s just one of those songs that resonates with just about anyone who hears it (or reads the subs).
Double Lariat because Luka is amazing:
And a MMDPV bonus for prestige:
Fuck Youtube’s new embed code…

I felt like sharing one of my favorites.

The first round of votes for groups C and D are now over; all in all, quite uneventful. As expected, Saki is gracefully making its way through the competition, taking some hits here and there as a proper second-year contestant should. Personally, I’m glad to see Mizuki (Baka Test) win her round, although she had to trample over Horo (Spice and Wolf) to do it…To Aru Kagaku no Railgun is surprisingly better than expected with Konori-sempai a secondary character, beating Sheryl (Macross Frontier), and of course Kuroko won her round. All in all, a mild and predictable performance.
The first round of Group E&F ended today with Yuki Nagato (The Disappearance of Suzumiya Haruhi) dominating her bracket. I’m assuming the movie was somehow good? As I write this, day 2 of Groups E&F are starting up, featuring Tenshi and Yui, both from Angel Beats. Both my picks for their respective groups.
The Saimoe 2010 Bracket as it currently stands:
Edit: Tenshi and Yui both won with record votes. It’s a good day!

Norio Wakamoto is a man of many talents. He’s probably best known as the Emperor of Britannia or the derisive narrator in Hayate the Combat Butler. He’s done sentai roles (think Power Rangers), he’s done GPS voices, and now he’s singing for his sailor uniform…

Saimoe has already started so I’m quite late with this, but it’s the obligatory Saimoe promo MAD.
I’ve always like the promo MADs even if the video quality is kinda crap. Seeing as how I’ve been playing Project Diva religiously, the song they used caught my attention. Apparently it’s Romeo and Cinderella by niconico chorus, kinda epic.
I love how they just had to cross out Hideyoshi.
Tomorrow is also Himeji Mizuki’s first round. She had a fair number of votes during the prelims, so I hope she makes it!

Tenga, the ever so popular adult “self-help” accessories dealer is sponsoring a new idol group in Japan, the “Tengal 6”. Alleged to be a “pure and innocent hip hop idol unit,” I am slightly disturbed, repulsed, and intrigued at the same time. Admittedly, this is a new feeling for me and I’ve seen a lot of crazy over the years.
On one end, I feel bad for these girls. Being an idol is hard work in Japan since there’s only a few hundred million of them (or so) and the only way to get noticed is to either go into AV like that one AKB48 girl or to be a part of some crazy marketing scheme like AKB48. Not to say that I dislike AKB48, but I just find it to be a horribly contrived marketing gimmick that somehow works for all the wrong reasons—well it works for all except that one girl that went into AV…
On the other end, this is a great opportunity for these girls to be noticed! For them to sing their hearts out while being sponsored by a “dolphin-polishing” company. And since Tenga is popular and obviously doing well, they’ll have tons of fans in an already established market. Just think, one day their followers will rage about them having more-than-platonic relations with someone of the male gender and understand just how creepy idol-otaku can get.
And I can’t help but be a little curious about the actual music…

I didn’t intend for this to be my first post, but I’ll be damned if I let this go without a comment…
I am absolutely shocked that Himari (Omamori Himari) managed to win her bracket. With contenders from Saki and the ever so ubiquitous Tamaki (To Heart 2) staring her in the face, Himari might have done better to just forfeit. And this isn’t even considering Kuesu’s (Omamori Himari) role in the fray. I was fully expecting Himari and Kuesu to split their votes and have Tamaki sitting on top of them holding Kaori (Saki) as the winner.
But somehow she pulled through, albeit by only four votes, Himari has managed to unseat another Saki contender. I’m sure the neko-mimi helped, I’m very partial to neko-mimi so I totally approve of this!
And on the subject of neko-mimi, Hanekawa (Bakemonogatari) lost to Ikaros (Sora no Otoshimono). Granted that SoraOta is quite popular (Nymph did win her bracket) and Ikaros surely has more 'hopes and dreams’ to offer, I didn’t expect this fledgling to be able to unseat Hanekawa. Maybe Mayoi or Kanbaru, but Hanekawa is practically second to Senjougahara, and she lost by a rather fair margin too. Although I pegged Hanekawa to win, my wishes were with Ikaros so this was good for me too.
Looks as if preliminary votes mean nothing in this year’s Saimoe. I look forward to Groups C and D, go go Baka-Test! Give Hitomi Harada more voice roles!
